 note = {P(論文), This study aims at finding out the factors made possible the start and the long history of development of the volleyball movement at former Asa district at the suburbs of Hiroshima City, which is present Asa-Minami district of the city. This movement was started in the early Showa period and has continued to this day, which is rather a rare and peculiar movement in Japan. To the students of history of volleyball game in Japan, it is rather well known fact that at one time many members of All Japan Team in Olympic games were from Hiroshima, which can be said as one of the good results of this movement. Naturally, such result was not the aim of this movement. Then what was the first aim of this movement? What was the motive when the leaders started this movement? We collected literatures and documents related to this movement and made research on these problems, and also interviewd many peaple who knew or had ever participated in this movement, and obtained many important findings. The present article treats the phases of ther early stages of this movement from the beginning to 1950, and analysed the educational and social factors related especially to the start and development of the movement.},
