That is one tipe of folk high school movement in Japan. It is a movement that based on the Christianity. There were the three leaders-Trajiro Watase, Hirond Hirabayashi and Eiich Otani. (1) Watase (1859~1926). He was the agriculturist, with the spirit of Sapporo Agricultural School. Kono=Gakuen was realised by his last words, he left before his own death. Those were: it will be based on Christianity, to model the Danish folk high school, and will be the farmar school to teach the practical agriculture. (2) Hirabayashi (1886~1986). He was the researcher of Danish folk highschool. He was the first master of Kono=Gakuenon, opened the school at Shizuoka=Ken Kuzura in Oct. 1928. He was for two years, and retired suddenly the Gakuen in Nov. 1930. (3) Otani (1905~1994). He was the agricultural student of Kyushu University until came to Kuzura. He opened Kono=Gakuen together Hirabayashi, and guided their young pupils. After the retire of Hirabayashi, he took over Gakuen master. And graduadually he developoed his original ideas and practices. and educated at Kono=Gakuen in his yunger days only for three months.
