内容記述 | We have Hiroshima Alluvium situated at the hinterland of Hirosima Bay which Ohta River has made into gradual formation in the long stream of time. It comes to be a narrow flat in the course of nature, with 15 kilometers long from north to south and 4 kilometers wide from east to west, approximately along the winding path of the river. The trait of it is considered to be under the natural and social environment as follows. (1) Farming continues under the benefit of sunshine and water without succumbing to the intermittent natural force of flood. (2) Human culture has developed since the old times on the surrounding hillside area of it. (3) With the water transportation flourishing, market-towns came into being everywhere on the river from the earliest time which enables it possible for many people to settle there. (4) It was a point, connecting riverboats with cargo-boats on sea-foutcs. (5) In the Middle Ages, it was a warrior class that exerted their social powers on territorial management and developement/exploitation positively or aggressively. The warriors paly a role of safeguarding the lives of people and protecting their livelihood even except at the time of battle activity. In order to fulfil it, they sometimes offer the know-how of making various implements and materials heplful to farming. Iron materials are useful to farming implements, especially when the deep digging into the soil of alluvium becomes necessary. The warriors themselves need iron materials for the purpose of making war instruments, not to speak of. Some struggles took place among the factions of the warriors to monopolize the interests of the interior parts of Hiroshima Alluvium which is counted to have the material-source of iron. The characteristics of the aforesaid area shows a historical exemplification of the collaboration of warriors and farming people, sharing the common aims, which contribute a regional long safety. | |||||||||
